America

America, I know about your sick twisted ways.
America, when will the violence end.
When is it ever "right" to use an atomic bomb?
America, when will you be lynched?
I'm part of the American minority.
I'm Harriet Tubman.
I'm the slaves from the Atlantic Slave Trade.
America, why are you so scared?
For all you know, I could be a spy.
America, are you just going to ignore our economic issues?
When will the gap close?
I'm not America, nor American.
I'm not talking to myself.
I'm not delusional.
America, I have my own mind.
America, you may have freedom but you don't have class.
Get ready for change.

  1. I like how you included American history in your writing, such as the slave trade and Hiroshima/Nagasaki attacks. Even though you're referring to the past, you connect it to the present, and even write a statement for the future: "Get ready for change". You also connected it to yourself.

  2. I like how you talked about the cold truth about America. Reading your poem gave me goosebumps. I like how you included Americas past such as lynching and the atomic bomb. It is talking about how America feels like it can do whatever it wants and thats not right. In my letter i also included questions because I feel like it makes it more important. I really enjoyed your poem and the decisive position your speaker has.
